VANCOUVER, BC – The BC Innovation Council, in partnership with Creative BC and Wavefront, had the pleasure of hosting TED Conference guests on two separate tours Monday as a precursor to TED 2015: Truth and Dare taking place this week in Vancouver. For the second year in a row, TEDsters were exposed to some of the best and brightest in Vancouver’s high tech and digital media sectors.
Guests of the BC Tech Companies and Accelerators tour experienced first-hand Recon Instruments’ latest sports wearables ‘Discover Jet’ and ‘Discover Snow’ sport sunglasses and goggles while the BC Creative Industries tour dazzled its lucky guests with one of the world’s first Holographic Interactive Experience technologies currently being developed at the Centre for Digital Media.
The tours helped to highlight BC’s extraordinary technology ecosystem and facilitated impactful partnerships between local innovators and the leading influencers attending TED 2015 from all over the globe.
“We were thrilled to play a role in the TED experience for these 60 delegates, giving them a glimpse into BC’s innovative technology and creative industries landscape so they could see first hand what makes Vancouver the best place for these companies to grow,” says Greg Caws, CEO of BCIC. “The fresh ideas and technologies coming out of this Vancouver will positively have a lasting impact on the future of technical innovation globally.”
Participants across both tours included Recon Instruments, Wavefront, Mobify, Awesense, Sony Pictures Imageworks, DeNA, the National Film Board and the Centre for Digital Media. At each stop, guests experienced a studio tour followed by a brief presentation and demo of the company’s latest and most exciting work. Thank you to all participating organizations!
“It was a privilege to see the caliber of B.C. tech showcased to our international guests Monday,” said Minister Virk. “TED gives us a unique opportunity to highlight to the world the economic and innovative strengths our province has to offer companies and investors alike.”
TED is in Vancouver until Friday, March 20, 2015 and TEDTalks will be live- streamed for free! The web stream will run during the day through Friday at multiple locations throughout Vancouver. Click here for a list of viewing locations.
