BC’s Book Publishers to Reach New Markets and Grow Industry in Frankfurt, Germany

Oct 5, 2016

British Columbian owned and controlled book publishing companies are invited to apply for a $2,000 grant to support attendance at the Frankfurt Book Fair through Creative BC’s Passports to Markets Program. The book fair takes place from October 19-23, 2016 in Germany. Deadline for applications is Tuesday, October 11, 2016.

The Frankfurt Book Fair boasts over 7,000 exhibitors from 100-plus countries. With 286,000 visitors, it is the largest and most important marketplace for book rights and licensing worldwide. This five-day event provides connections and insights for book publishers on how to grow their business, expand their network and enhance their professional skills.

“It is essential that professionals across British Columbia’s creative industries have access to strategic marketing opportunities,” said Prem Gill, CEO, Creative BC. “This program ensures our province’s book publishers have access to global industry experts and a presence at this year’s Frankfurt Book Fair.”

“British Columbia has a robust group of book publishers with diverse subject matter,” said Heidi Waechtler, Executive Director, Association of Book Publishers of British Columbia. “Giving these individuals the opportunity to meet global partners will expand our current network and boost the province’s overall standing in this sector.”

Creative BC’s Passports to Markets Program has previously been available to BC-resident film, TV and new media producers and sales agents. Through the program, creative entrepreneurs are able to explore co-production partnerships and develop relationships with broadcasters, distributors and financiers. Sales agents are able to exploit their portfolio of film and TV projects, and attempt to secure pre-sales and/or distribution rights for various territories around the world.

Now with the recent Book Publishers Passport to Markets program, up to seven BC residents will be provided travel support for a maximum of $2,000 per person to offset event registration, booth and display fees, along with travel accommodation costs.
