Michael Francis Receives Distinguished Service Award

Oct 27, 2016

In the 70s Michael revitalized the Theatre Under the Stars, stabilized the Playhouse Theatre Company and established The Fire Hall Theatre. The 80s was even busier. Michael served with the Neighbourhood Services Association, Vancouver city Council’s Committee on the Arts, the Board of Western International Communications, and Vancouver Centennial Commission.

Then he became Chair of the Vancouver International Film Festival. He served at VIFF for 20 years, and remains Chair Emeritus. In 1992, Michael was asked to Chair the new Crown Agency called BC Film, to help establish a domestic film and television production industry. And the rest, they say, is history. Michael continues to follow his passion, and serves as Board Director of Creative BC. Congratulations, Michael! Your presence is an inspiration to us all.
