The Pacific Rim Arts Society's 2017 Summer Festival saw 13 performers at various locations in 3 communities, Tofino, Ucluelet and Hitacu. The festival was jam packed with BC performers. Norman Foote was well received in Hitacu and in Ucluelet, preforming a fantastic and engaging set with the audience.
Another highlight was the new Indigenous Outdoor concert on July 7, with 140 people in attendance and excellent engagement by the Hitacu and Tla-o-qui-aht First Nation communities. Local, BC and national Aboriginal performers George Leach and Digging Roots were invited to a smaller intimate outdoor setting allowing audience interaction and engagement. One of our local First Nation songwriters, Kalilah Rampanen, first met Lenard Sumner and Kinnie Starr last year at the Festival who encouraged her to continue to perform and write. This year she was back at the festival playing along-side George Leach and Digging Roots, which was a fantastic way to mentor and foster young talent, and one of the primary goals of the festival.
