Bell Media’s The Harold Greenberg Fund and Creative BC Announce Selections for BC Shorts Program

TORONTO (August 2, 2018)– Bell Media's The Harold Greenberg Fund announced today the first selections for its newly created BC Shorts Program. The initiative, developed in partnership with Creative BC, is designed to finance short films from filmmaking teams in British Columbia, showcasing new creative visions and furthering the careers of writers, producers and directors as they move towards feature filmmaking.

The following short film projects each receive $20,000 from the BC Shorts Program:

Duérmete Niño

On an unsettling night in the 1940s, a mother with a disability is constantly awakened by the disturbing sound of her crying child. 

  • From director/writer Freedy Chávez Olmos, co-writer Victor Osuna Palomino, producer Synnove Godeseth, and executive producer Victoria Burkhart. 

In Loving Memory

An apathetic young woman attends her dad's wake, 20 years afer he abandoned her family. 

  • From co-directors Mayumi Yoshida and Diana Bang, writer Andrea Bang and producer Nach Dudsdeemaytha

Tea With Lemon 

A comedy about a waitress who reaches her tipping point with difficult customers and serves up her own dish of revenge. 

  • From director/writer Alysse Leite-Rogers, co-writer Sean Rogers and producer Christina Toy.

Trappers

Faced with a debt her can't repay to a man dead set on collecting, Danny Kelly heads deep into the wild in a brutal winter storm to chase First Nation outlaw Simon Gunanoot and the reward for his capture.

  • From director/writer/producer Damien Gillis, co-director Michael Bourquin, co-writer/co-producer Daniel Conrad, and executive producer Jonathan Frantz.

"Our selections cover a broad spectrum of grenre and a diversity of filmmaking voices," said John Galway, President, English-Language Program, The Harold Greenberg Fund. "Collectively, they are a reflection of the creativity and talent in British Columbia's filmmaking community, and we're thrilled to be partnering with Creative BC to help accelerate the careers of a new wave of B.C. filmmakers."

"The short film project funding will ensure recipients gain invaluable writing, production and directing experience, and we're excited to see their creative visions come to life on screen."

The English-Language Program of the Harold Greenber Fund, with contributions from Bell Media and The Movie Network, provides reimbursable financial assistance for the development of feature films, as well as sponsoring industry workshops, training programs, festivals, special events and awards. Since its inception in 1986, the French and English Programs of the Fund have supported nearly 4,500 projects and initiaves, for an investment of over $100 million to date in the Canadian film and televison industry.
