Creative BC Presents Motion Picture Industrys 4th Annual Sustainable Production Forum

Oct 29, 2019

VANCOUVER, B.C. – The motion picture industry’s 4th Annual Sustainable Production Forum (SPF) on November 1st and 2nd at Emily Carr University is proudly presented by Creative BC and delivered in collaboration with the Motion Picture Production Industry Association (MPPIA) and Green Spark Group. The event signifies increasing momentum, ongoing commitment and another demonstration of B.C.’s industry-leading Reel Green initiative that drives active change both on set and in life.

The BE #REELGREEN awareness campaign running now is set to culminate with this year’s SPF where the theme is Collective Action.  The event will showcase an expert lineup of industry speakers, skill-building workshops and awards, closing off with an industry event and screening of HBO’s hit documentary, Ice on Fire. Produced by Oscar-winner Leonardo DiCaprio, George DiCaprio and Mathew Schmid, and directed by Leila Conners, Ice on Fire is an eye-opening documentary that focuses on many never-before-seen solutions designed to slow down our escalating environmental crisis.

The SPF will host international representatives and contributions from Sony Pictures, NBCUniversal, CBS, HBO, Warner Bros. and BAFTA, providing necessary exchange and opportunity for industry members from B.C. and abroad to advance green practices collaboratively. Together with British Columbia’s own sustainability experts in film and television, leading thinkers and environmental professionals will guide and challenge industry toward sustained action on urgent topics in greener physical production.

Participants at SPF will hear opening remarks by Prem Gill, CEO of Creative BC, and a welcome address from Vancouver Mayor Kennedy Stewart. These will be followed by two days’ worth of plenary discussions, workshops and more that tackle issues relevant to the climate emergency including communicating for the planet, diversity, and producing with purpose.  Visionaries from UBC Climate Hub, and Fairware, Women in Film and TV among others will offer Idea Blasts based on their leading research and programs.

Importantly, and new to the SPF lineup, this year the event adds skill-building workshops, including a demonstration of the Reel Green Carbon Calculator powered by albert. This newly adapted version of the British Academy of Film and Television Arts (BAFTA) calculator will be shared with industry professionals and is delivered as part of Reel Green’s ongoing free suite of resources for education, awareness and action.
