The State of Diversity, Inclusion and Equity in the Canadian Magazine Industry Survey

Feb 16, 2021

The Magazine Association of BC would like to support its membership and the magazine industry across Canada to be more diverse, inclusive and equitable.

Recent events in the US, Canada and around the world have highlighted issues of marginalization and inequity in many societies and sectors, and there has been a renewed effort to understand the root causes of marginalization and to address inequities. The marginalization of Indigenous, black and other racialized communities is being highlighted and is of particular concern in the Canadian context.

This provides a timely moment for the magazine publishing industry to examine the state of diversity and inclusion within the industry and to determine how it can address issues of marginalization and work towards more equitable outcomes.

To assess the current state of diversity and inclusion in the industry, a nation-wide survey with both French and English versions has been launched.

The findings of the survey will be used to determine strategies and next steps that will contribute to a more diverse and inclusive magazine industry in Canada.

In order for these findings to be valid and useful, we need as many publishers, freelancers and other magazine professionals as possible to fill it out. Please share the survey link with your staff and colleagues in the Canadian magazine industry.

The survey can be completed in 15 minutes or less and will be open until Feb. 19, 2021. Survey research results will be distributed by July 2021.
