The annual African Descent Festival (“ADF”) is a leading arts and cultural event that celebrates African arts, culture, and heritage in B.C.
Founded in 2015 by Yasin Kiraga M (who is also the founder of African Descent Society BC), the Festival shines a light on the history and heritage of people of African descent throughout the city of Vancouver, the Province of BC, and the country of Canada at large. The Festival creates a platform for contemporary African-Canadian art, culture, and diaspora within Greater Vancouver, and enables this community to showcase and share its rich cultural heritage with the community at large. Food, fashion, live performances, and a celebratory parade will all be on offer.
This year, the eighth annual Festival will run from 10 am – 9 pm on Saturday, July 16, and Sunday, July 17, 2022. Look for it at Thornton Park (1166 Main Street, Vancouver, B.C.).
