IM4 Extended Reality XR – Cultural Processes Workshop

This December 6th from 11am-2pm PST IM4 will be co-hosting a workshop with the Urban Society for Aboriginal Youth.

The workshop lecture will be given by LeeAnne Ireland. This workshop focuses on going through the cultural processes when creating an XR project with a case study on USAY’s VR projects. Topics will include the process of inviting Elders, language integration, art development, community development and more. LeeAnne Ireland is a mixed-race, Anishnaabee person from the Treaty 1 region. LeeAnne is a graduate from Trent University with a degree in Indigenous Studies, LeeAnne has been the Executive Director at the Urban Society for Aboriginal Youth (USAY) since 2008. LeeAnne primarily focuses on social justice issues facing Indigenous youth living in the Calgary area, and with their involvement, creates programs, tools, and supports that foster healing, well-being, and empowerment. LeeAnne’s goal is to shift the narrative of Indigenous people to showcase the strength, resiliency, and vibrancy that Indigenous possess throughout the world.
