Play it Forward: A non-profit campaign video contest

Cineworks is looking for 10 Metro Vancouver filmmakers and 10 regional charities and non-profits to pair up in a commission to create 10 great campaign videos.

Now in its second year, the Play it Forward campaign video contest takes place between December 2014 and March 2015 and is designed to bring together our creative and non-profit communities to help make Metro Vancouver a better place to live.

We’re inviting filmmakers and organisations to a meet-and-greet event on Saturday 13th December, between 2.00pm and 4.30pm at the Roundhouse Community Arts And Recreation Centre in Yaletown, Vancouver. We are then inviting pairing proposals by the end of the following week and will select 10, to be announced at the beginning of January, to Play It Forward and make the campaign videos by mid March. Filmmakers are strongly encouraged to attend.

Cineworks will commission 10 pairings of filmmakers and regional organisations to collaborate on producing a campaign video of one to three minutes long, professionally and engagingly capturing the spirit of each organisation involved. The finished videos will be screened at Pacific Cinematheque in a free public event March 21st, 2015 and will also be available for free on demand on the TELUS OptikTM TV.

Organizations that are registered as non-profits or charities should contact with an expression of interest; filmmakers are welcome to come on the day without prior arrangement.

10 chosen charities and non-profits will receive:

One free, professionally produced campaign video of one to three minutes in length

10 chosen filmmakers will receive:

  • A one year production membership with Cineworks (value $120)
  • A $350 artist's fee
  • $150 towards production costs for the video
  • $350 equipment credit at Cineworks to be used for the video
  • A theatrical screening of their campaign video
  • An opportunity to win the Audience Choice award at the screening consisting of: $500 cash, $750 equipment credit at Cineworks, Passes to DOXA 2015, An iPad mini
