In celebration of their 16th year, the theme for the Whistler Writers Festival is risk: taking risks and exploring risky subjects.

Thursday, Oct 12 features Comedy Quickies with cash and prizes awarded for Best Comedy Writing and Best Act.

Friday features a full day of publishing sessions, workshops and discussions with publishers about the industry’s challenges. In the afternoon, hone your pitching skills. Friday night is the Chefs’ Reception followed by The Literary Cabaret, hosted by local scribe and musician Stephen Vogler.

Saturday offers reading events, and a book salon with the Globe and Mail’s Doug Saunders, author of Maximum Canada: Why 35 Million Canadians Aren’t Enough. In the evening, join CBC’s Grant Lawrence in conversation with the Globe and Mail’s Doug Saunders, Leslie Anthony, Claudia Casper and Gurjinder Basran. 

On Sunday, Doug Saunders hosts the Sunday brunch and discussion with award winning authors Barbara Gowdy, Monia Mazigh, Frances Itani, Michael Harris and Lee Maracle.
