The celebration takes place in the cultural oasis of Granville Island, and continues throughout the year with programs including: our free, Incite reading series at the Vancouver Public Library; special events with leading writers; and Spreading the Word education programs at Lower Mainland schools and in small BC communities.
The Festival was inaugurated in 1988 by founding Artistic Director Alma Lee. In 2010, They received the honour of being named the best large literary festival in Canada by the Canadian Tourism Commission. Originally called the Vancouver International Writers and Readers Festival, they adopted the current name in 2012.
The Vancouver Writers Fest is a registered non-profit, charitable organization that operates with the support of public sector funding, ticket sales, advertising revenue, corporate sponsorships and donations.
