Ponderosa is a proudly independent three-day boutique music and arts festival held riverside in the small community of Rock Creek, BC. The festival has showcased a stellar line-up of BC based musicians over the past half-decade, bringing together artists and arts lovers from all over the province to enjoy an easygoing, laid-back weekend. This year there will be over 30 acts featuring headliners K-OS, SUUNS, Blue Hawaii, The Funk Hunters, and more.
The founders of the festival have aimed to create a sense of community from the very start, and they maintain that value in every aspect of the event. The staff, contractors, and vendors that they work with are all BC-based companies and professionals. The philosophy is “the more local, the better for everyone.” The event has organically grown a welcoming, inclusive community year after year, which has lasted even beyond the festival weekend.
It started with a simple conversation between two friends on the power of music and how it brings people together. It was ignited after an orchard party at the family farm in the Okanagan Valley during the summer of 2012. What started off as a gathering of a couple dozen close friends turned into a long weekend party of nearly 100, playing music, tubing down the river, camping under the stars, and eating mouth-watering fresh fruits right off of the tree. That vision morphed into a dream to put on a summer festival – a dream that became a reality in August of 2013.
The location, the arts, the food, the story, and of course, the music all contribute to the unique festival experience that is Ponderosa. They feel so passionate about this project and take every opportunity to bring something genuine and pure to those who attend – going back to the true meaning of ‘hosting’ a party. This is what they feel has, and will separate them from other music festivals. They are striving to maintain a certain vibe and are looking to build a sense of community that they feel has faded from most of the larger outdoor music events.
